What is exhaust manifold?

Why the steel castings are used for exhaust manifold？

1. When the exhaust manifold is in operation, it needs to withstand the long-term erosion of high-temperature exhaust gas at 600-1000℃, and the temperature fluctuates frequently with the engine's operating conditions, which can easily cause fatigue damage to the material.Steel castings, especially heat-resistant steel castings, such as alloy steels containing chromium, nickel and silicon, possess extremely high high-temperature strength and thermal stability.

   It can maintain stable mechanical properties at high temperatures and is not prone to softening, deformation or cracking due to high temperatures. And it can repeatedly withstand the impact of sudden temperature rises and falls, significantly extending the service life of the exhaust manifold and avoiding exhaust gas leakage problems caused by material failure.

   
   

2. The structure of the exhaust manifold needs to be designed as a complex shape of multiple branch pipes + main pipe + flange, based on the number of engine cylinders and the cylinder arrangement :in-line, V-shaped, horizontally opposed, and the length, angle and diameter of the branch pipes need to be precisely matched to reduce exhaust interference, which requires extremely high complex structure forming ability in the manufacturing process.
   

   The casting process of steel precision castings is mature. It can cast complex multi-branch structures in one time, avoiding the use of welding processes. The casting accuracy is relatively high, which can precisely control the dimensional tolerance and angular deviation of the branch pipe, ensuring a precise connection with the exhaust port of the cylinder head and reducing exhaust resistance.

Before shipment, we conduct  a comprehensive inspection of the dimension and the inner cavity, ensuring the manifolds are qualified.

Then packed them carefully. As the below picture shows, they are packed individually with bubble bag to protect, and packed in big wooden case outside to avoid the collision during transportation.
